Menalon Trail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our journey continued into the center of the Peloponnese, in the direction of the Menalon Trail. This is a 75km long hiking trail that leads through the Menalon Valley and that is divided into sections. The area there is rather unknown and not yet particularly developed for tourism. That made us tempted to hike a small section of the way. We drove to Vytina, a village where about 700 people live. It was Sunday noon when we arrived and the village was really filled with visitors in the restaurants and cafes. We didn't expect it to be that full. We also sat down in a small caf\u00e9 and treated ourselves to a waffle and the waiter told us that they themselves were totally surprised how many visitors there were in Vytina that day. They were very happy, but they had no explanation for it either. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day started with a small breakfast in the accommodation, which consisted of bread and small desserts such as muffins and cakes. Freshly strengthened, we went on the hike. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the exit of Vytina, a dog noticed us, who followed us on the way (initially with a little safety margin). She came closer and closer and did not leave our side for the entire hike. The path led to a small ravine past many mirabelle and olive trees to an old stone bridge. It was really hot that day and there were hardly any shady spots on the way. So after about 4.5 km we turned around and hiked back towards Vytina. The dog was always with us. The hike was really fun, but it was also very strenuous due to the heat and the differences in altitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
